Featured Projects
PROJECT 01 · MICROGRID FEASIBILITY & RESILIENCE
Wastewater Treatment Facility Microgrid
Loíza, Puerto Rico · Critical Infrastructure
Evaluation and optimization of a resilient microgrid incorporating solar, wind, and battery energy storage to support critical wastewater operations during extended outages and extreme events. The facility required a microgrid concept capable of supporting critical wastewater operations during grid outages while evaluating multiple renewable generation and storage configurations.
48-hour Resilience
Maintain critical operations during an extended grid outage.
Multiple DER Technologies
Evaluate solar PV, wind generation, diesel generation, and battery energy storage.
Extreme Event Performance
Assess resilience under hurricanes, tropical storms, earthquakes, and grid blackouts.
We analyzed facility load requirements and renewable-energy resources, developed candidate microgrid configurations, and evaluated system performance under both conventional outage and extreme-event scenarios. Both evaluated configurations satisfied the 48-hour resilience requirement, while the hybrid Solar-Wind-BESS configuration demonstrated greater survivability under the modeled extreme-event conditions.
